Secret World
Lovely video (and tune) and also my little geeks this youtube was shot in 4k video resolution (4096 × 3072) which would ideally fit on a 25 foot screen. All very well if you have your laptop rigged up to a projector but anyhoo.
What’s bigger than 1080p? 4K video comes to YouTube
Today at the VidCon 2010 conference, we announced support for videos shot in 4K, meaning that now we support original video resolution from 360p all the way up to 4K. To give some perspective on the size of 4K, the ideal screen size for a 4K video is 25 feet; IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors. – linky

YouTube goes Full HD!
Well i bought a subscription to Vimeo because i always thought that the video quality there was slightly better than youtube … if you squint … kinda. Both sites allowed Half def 720p HD video. Until now that is. I read this post [ 1080p HD is coming to Youtube ] last week on the Youtube Blog and i’ve been dying to try it out. So i shot a little test clip in 1080 HD and have uploaded it to youtube. Now the weather conditions here are miserable and grey, hardly ideal! So i’m not sure how good this is gonna look.

Vimeo vs Viddyou vs Youtube
As the thread title suggests, which video host is best for HD video? Well first of all how about a direct comparison – the same video on all three sites:
Viddyou.com (paid)
Vimeo.com (paid)
Youtube.com (free)
It’s very very close, Viddyou seems to display the video with the most saturation, then Vimeo and then Youtube. Particularly with the red flowers Viddyou seems a bit too much. I would say Vimeo is just slightly sharper than the other two. Apart from that i can see very little difference.
I have to say i am surprised. I’m paying Vimeo for their Plus package ((you can use Vimeo for free but with limits)) and compared to youtube, i’m wondering if it’s worth it? People over there say “ah yes but what you get over here is a better community“. True enough Youtube is littered with arseholes but i get more views and positive comments on Youtube than i do on Vimeo. So unless Vimeo come up with something come next subscription time then i don’t think i’ll be renewing with them. My main reason for uploading home movies is as an extra backup but also for embedding them on other sites. With Vimeo you only get a set amount of embedded High Definition plays per year. Even after you have paid them. If you need more plays then you pay them again! I don’t think so.
Smugmug
I’ve been looking for somewhere to upload both photos and videos. For pix i used Flickr and for videos i used Viddyou and had paid accounts with both. I’ve also tried Vimeo which i like and YouTube which is full of idiotic children leaving idiotic comments, so although HD videos look ok on YouTube, it’s still the a trailertrash video site. So anyway, i found SmugMug! It’s certainly not the cheapest of pix and video hosting solutions but i reckon it’s the best. Your photos are displayed very professionally and you can even sell them through SmugMug. But what really impressed me was their HD video! I’ve uploaded a couple of HD videos and they look amazing on there. Plus you get embed codes so you can embed either dvd quality video or web quality (see below).
Viddyou videos look better embedded i think, however, go to SmugMug and watch the video in full size High Def and you really notice a difference! –> Click Here
