A quest for a gaming laptop!
I’m going to treat myself to a new laptop towards the end of the year so i’ve started researching them. What i’m looking for is something powerful enough to run the latest games but portable enough to sit on my knee. So the absolute maximum would be 15″ but i’d prefer 12 to 14″. Oh and it will need a backlit keyboard so i can type in bed with the lights dimmed!
The first one that fits the bill is Alienware m11x. A beast of a laptop but after viewing the forums there seems to be a few quality control issues with them, most commonly a hinge that breaks off and the screen getting scratched from hitting the keyboard. It shouldn’t surprise me, i’ve had laptops from Dell before (they took over Alienware) and two of those were returned because of shoddyness.
The second one that fits the bill is Sony Vaio Z. Spec and size wise it is perfect and it looks extremely well built. And far nicer looking that the alienware. Trouble is it costs a frigging fortune! I’m not sure i’m up for spending 2 grand or over on a laptop.
Others that i’ve seen mentioned are MSI and Acer but they’re not really what i’m looking for. Either too big or lack of features i’m looking for. It’s surprising what little choice there is for a powerful ultra portable. I can’t find any 13″ laptops. I know Dell (yea i know) used to do an XPS 13″. I suppose there’s always a macbook but i don’t know how it will work with games.
ARGHHHH!
eBay and PayPal Fees
Well i just sold a wideangle camera lens on eBay for £285. Not bad i thought. Until that is you take away eBays £30 fees and PayPals £11 fees! I think in future if i’m selling higher value stuff i’ll be finding an alternative to ebay. I could have sold it through one of the many camera forums i frequent but i didn’t think at the time (doh!) I don’t know how they justify those fees and i certainly don’t know how paypal do. How does it cost them £11 to transfer £285 from one account to another!? Mind you real life auction rooms are just as bad if not worse. /end rant.
Farmville
I promised myself that i wouldn’t get involved with this nonsense and look at me – just look at me! I was so miffed that my strawberries wilted yesterday that i am now trying to find a decent android application for my phone that will let me tend my farm on the go. Thank God you can’t play World of Warcraft on your phone or i’d be permanently fixed to my screen!
Anyway, i’ve had no luck in finding a way to tend my crops from an android device as of yet so if anyone has any idea then i’d be grateful if you could point me in the right direction. Thankya kindly. *goes off to sow more peanuts*
Secret World
Lovely video (and tune) and also my little geeks this youtube was shot in 4k video resolution (4096 × 3072) which would ideally fit on a 25 foot screen. All very well if you have your laptop rigged up to a projector but anyhoo.
What’s bigger than 1080p? 4K video comes to YouTube
Today at the VidCon 2010 conference, we announced support for videos shot in 4K, meaning that now we support original video resolution from 360p all the way up to 4K. To give some perspective on the size of 4K, the ideal screen size for a 4K video is 25 feet; IMAX movies are projected through two 2k resolution projectors. – linky

Eiko playing fetch!
Our cat Eiko loves to play fetch with screwed up bits of paper. Tried various kinds of toys but he’d sooner have paper!
